5 Best Beaches on the Emerald Coast

Every beach here has the same white quartz sand and the same green water. What actually separates them is parking, restrooms, crowd level, and how the water behaves.

Here are the five we send our guests to, and why.

1. John Beasley Park, Okaloosa Island

Best all around family beach

  • Free parking, though it fills by mid morning in summer

  • Lifeguards on duty seasonally

  • Restrooms, outdoor showers, and covered pavilions

  • Wide beach with plenty of room to spread out

  • Restaurants and the Gulfarium within walking distance

Why families love it: It has everything you need without a fee, and the dune walkovers make hauling gear manageable.

Go early. Parking is the only real constraint.

2. Henderson Beach State Park, Destin

Best for facilities and dunes

  • Per vehicle entry fee, which keeps crowds moderate

  • Large paved parking lot that rarely fills the way free lots do

  • Restrooms, changing rooms, showers, picnic pavilions, and a nature trail

  • 30 foot dunes and a genuinely beautiful stretch of preserved shoreline

  • Right in Destin, so food and shopping are minutes away

Why families love it: It is the most convenient combination of amenities and beauty in Destin proper.

3. Grayton Beach State Park, 30A

Best scenery

  • Consistently ranked among the top beaches in the country

  • Coastal dune lake sits right beside the Gulf, which is a rare ecosystem

  • Kayak and paddleboard rentals available on the lake

  • Restrooms, showers, picnic areas, and hiking trails

  • Camping and cabins available if you want to extend the trip

Why families love it: Two totally different water experiences in one stop. The lake is calm and shallow, which is ideal for smaller kids on rough surf days.

4. Navarre Beach

Best for peace and quiet

  • The least crowded beach on the Emerald Coast

  • Free and paid parking options

  • Navarre Beach Marine Park has an artificial reef snorkeling area close to shore

  • Navarre Beach Fishing Pier is the longest in the Gulf

  • Restrooms, pavilions, and a splash pad at the park

Why families love it: Room to breathe. If you want a beach day without hunting for a parking spot, this is the drive.

5. Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, Santa Rosa Beach

Best for a real escape

  • Over three miles of undeveloped shoreline

  • Tram service carries you from the parking area to the sand

  • Coastal dune lakes, hiking and biking trails, and rare dune ecosystems

  • Restrooms and showers at the beach access

  • Per vehicle entry fee

Why families love it: It feels remote in a way almost nothing else on this coast does. Bring everything you need, because there is no snack bar waiting.

Honorable mentions

  • James Lee Park, Destin: Free parking, restrooms, and a restaurant right on the sand

  • Liza Jackson Park, Fort Walton Beach: Calm bayside water and a playground, ideal for toddlers

  • Okaloosa Island Boardwalk: Beach plus food and shops in one stop

One safety note

Whichever beach you choose, check the flags first. Rip currents are the number one hazard on this coast, and conditions can change between morning and afternoon. Double red means the water is legally closed.
